The Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate is the first indigenous religious congregation of catholic priests founded in Kerala in 1831 by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara and his associates. Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara

Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara was born in 1805 at Kainkary, Kerala. After his early schooling and priestly studies he was ordained priest in 1829. Father Kuriakose founded the Indigenous Religious Congregation- Carmelites Mary Immaculate (CMI) on May 11, 1831. He was a pioneer in education and social work in the country. He was an illustrious scholar,educationist, prophetic writer, poet, multilinguist, social reformer and an organizer.Father Kuriakose was a man of deep prayer and he stayed in close communion with the Lord amidst his religious and social activities. So he was accepted as a man of God.

Based on the traditional Carmelite spirituality Fr. Kuriakose introduced Monastic life in Kerala and emphasized the importance of education. Father Kuriakose took a keen interest in starting educational Institutions attached to the Monasteries and churches. The idea paved the way for progressive change in the field of educating in India. Education is one of the Charisms of the CMI Congregation. It is running a good number of schools, colleges, hospitals, social service centers, printing houses, and so on in various parts of India drawing inspiration from Father. Kuriakose. He died on January 3rd 1871 and his mortal remains are kept in St. Joseph’s Monastry, Mannanam, Kerala.

The congregation took up education as a service to the society. Christ Public School is ideally located and is least disturbed by the busyness and noise of the city. Its atmosphere, the facilities, the infrastructure, its well qualified and caring teachers make the school one of its kind. It is indeed a school with a difference, and for the city parents, it is a dream school where they would send their children at any cost.

Aims and Objectives

This school is primarily meant to provide sound education based on religious and moral values to all irrespective of religion, caste or community, paying respect to their religious feelings and freedom of conscience.

The school aims not merely at preparing its pupils to qualify for the board examinations but also at achieving excellence in every aspect of educational activity – spiritual, academic, cultural, social and physical – by developing their character and personality through graded responsibility, personal guidance and social awareness, thus forming them into leaders in the intellectual and civic life of the country. With this end in view and guided by the Christian principles, and in keeping with the signs of the times and the motto of our school, ‘Knowledge and Excellence’, we try to build up in our students proper interests, attitudes and a sense of value, they have to uphold in life.  

Our activities are geared toward inculcating in our staff members and students a deep and firm faith in God, which should be manifested in their respect for spiritual values and their concern for their fellow men.
